Drying Oven Method for Plastic Moisture

The drying oven method is widely used to determine the moisture content in plastic materials. This method involves heating the sample in an oven at a specified temperature to remove moisture, and then measuring the weight loss to calculate the moisture content.

General Criteria

The drying oven method has several advantages, including its simplicity, accuracy, and suitability for a wide range of plastic材料.

  • This method is simple to perform and requires minimal equipment.
  • It is suitable for materials with moisture contents ranging from a few to several percent.

However, the drying oven method can be time-consuming, and may not be suitable for materials that are sensitive to heat or that release volatile compounds during drying.

Procedure

1. The sample is weighed and then placed in an oven.
2. Oven Temperature is set to 105C for 1h.
3. The sample is weighed again after drying.
4. The moisture content is calculated as the weight loss divided by the original weight of the sample.

Equipment/Apparatus

  • Drying Oven
  • Moisture Analyzer
  • Sample Holder
  • Desiccator
  • Standard

This method is particularly useful for quality control purposes, as it provides a reliable and accurate measure of the moisture content in plastic materials.
